Blade Runner 2049 Trailer Reaction

Trailer!

Blade Runner 2049 is set to hit theaters on October 6th of this year. The film is directed by Dennis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, the film is also shot by Roger Deakins who worked with Villeneuve on Sicario and Prisoners.

Warner Bros. released this trailer a few days ago. You can tell that this film is going to feature incredible visuals and world-building. Even if Blade Runner 2049 flops, it will still be worth watching to witness amazing cinematography.

Blade Runner 2049 is another example of Hollywood rebooting existing properties to make money. Usually I find it difficult to muster up excitement for such projects but I can not help but feel a little bit of hype for Blade Runner 2049.

This new trailer solidified my hype for this movie.

It only makes sense that a film directed by Villeneuve and shot by Deakins will be incredible. I find it easy to support reboots of existing properties when talented filmmakers are involved.

Power Rangers Trailer Reaction

Hey Guess What?

Power Rangers is being rebooted as a film and its coming to theaters on March 24th of this year. The second trailer for the film was released about a week ago and I am just now getting to watching it and Holy Shit it has my attention. Without further ado, here’s a link to the trailer:

POWER RANGERS TRAILER

I like that the film is not above laughing at its own ridiculous premise in the trailer because the idea of teenagers stumbling upon a secret cave and realizing they are the chosen ones is ludicrous to say the least. The CGI looks pretty good. I am hoping that this become a funnier and less serious version of the Transformers franchise.

Honestly I’m surprised it took this long for Power Rangers to be turned into a film. I know Power Rangers has been rebooted as several different television series but not making a movie is like leaving money on the table. Even if this film is a complete disaster, I still imagine it will make a ton of money because kids eat this crap up. Power Rangers was my favorite show as a young child so I am happy to see it become a major motion picture. It’s easy to make fun of the show but I will always have a soft spot for it because it hit me at such a young age. I hope that a new generation of children can find joy in Power Rangers just like I did.

Colossal Trailer Reaction

The first trailer for Nacho Vigalondo’s Colossal has surfaced on the internet. I am hyped for this film because the premise (Anne Hathaway’s character controls a giant monster) seems like a brilliant idea for a movie.

Trailer!

I am so happy that this film is getting a theatrical release. I have heard nothing but good things from people who watched Colossal at film festivals.

Hopefully the release of this film is a sign that more Kaiju movies will be made in the future. The big star of this film is Anne Hathaway, which adds to my anticipation to see this movie. Its amazing that Vigalondo was able to sign on Hathaway for this film, which speaks to the quality of the film’s script.

Look for this film in theaters on April 7 of this year.

SPLIT Trailer Reaction

There’s going to be a new M. Night Shyamalan movie called Split. The film will star Scottish actor James McAvoy as a man with multiple personality disorder who kidnaps three girls.

Trailer!

This movie looks nuts. This role is an interesting choice for McAvoy who will need to frequently shift from character to character. At first the trailer seems absolutely terrifying but I have to admit, it does lose something when McAvoy’s gimmick is revealed. I’d rather be kidnapped by someone with multiple personalities than a straight-up psycho.

This film is a reunion between Shyamalan and low-budget production specialist Jason Blum who previously teamed up on The Visit last year. My early bet is that this will be another low-budget success for Blum’s production company.

Shyamalan is one of the more interesting filmmakers working today. Although he is hit-or-miss when it comes to his movies, I am definitely excited to see his latest film. It also looks like Split will take seriously the psychological disorder that it prominently features.

Level Up Trailer Reaction

Hey so there’s a new trailer today for a movie called Level Up, an action thriller about a loser gamer who suddenly becomes a badass to save his girlfriend.

Trailer!

Oldboy and Taken are the two movies that come to mind watching this trailer. The premise is completely ridiculous but who cares? This should be a fun movie to watch. I fully expect Level Up to provide very little plot and a ton of violence.

At least this movie knows itself. That’s probably an indicator that the movie will be at least halfway decent for what it is. It’s weird that movies and video games are beginning to overlap. As video games become more popular, I expect to see movies attempt to utilize their tropes more and more.
